LECTURE TOPIC: "Lee's 2nd Corps: Old Bald Head to Lee's Bad Old Man." The "foot soldiers" of the late Stonewall Jackson started the 1864 campaiging season under General Richard Ewell, "Old Bald Head." Through the ensuing battles of the Wilderness and Spotsylvania Court House, the 2nd Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia once again demonstrated its prowess and grit on the battlefield, while suffering a high number of casualties. With Ewell going out on sick leave soon after Spotsylvania, General Jubal Early, Lee's "Bad Old Man,"  took command, and the 2nd Corps became the mobile strike force that General Lee hoped could turn the tide of fighting in 1864. This talk will recount those momentous months of tough marching, intense fighting and the status of the cause on the line.
