Author/Historian Laura Davis will tell how ex-Confederates planned to colonize Central Mexico following their defeat in the Civil War.  One of the issues they faced was their inability to bring slaves to their colony as slavery had been banned under Mexican law.  Despite that obstacle, Confederate generals “Fighting” Jo Shelby, Edmund Kirby Smith, John B. Magruder, Sterling Price, Thomas Hindman and Alexander Terrell made their way to Mexico after the war.
