LECTURE TOPIC:  Hal Litchford will discuss James McDowell Carrington, captain and later major of the Charlottesville Artillery and the history of that artillery unit with the Army of Northern VA. He will trace the movements and engagements of the Charlottesville Artillery from its role in "Saving Stonewall's Bacon" at Port Republic in June 1862 through its sacrifice and destruction at the Bloody Angle of Spotsylvania in May 1864. Highlighting the presentation will be the display of Captain Carrington's presentation sword, made by the Marcellus McKennie & Company in Charlottesville.
