Rick Britton Tour of Cville Civil War Sites
Start Time: 9:00 AM
End Time: 12:00 PM

Rick Britton will lead a tour of Charlottesville's Civil War sites to be folllowed by an optional post-tour lunch at Timberwood Grill.

COST:  The tour will be FREE to CWRT Members. The post-tour lunch will be at your expense.

REGISTRATION: Sign up by emailing CvilleCWRT@gmail.com. Please indicate if you are bringing someone and/or plan to join us for the post-tour lunch.

ITINERARY:  The tour will begin at Court Square, where we will see the City's only extant slave block. From there we'll walk about 4 blocks to Maplewood Cemetery, C'ville's oldest cemetery and the final resting place of a number of Civil War notables. After the cemetery stop, we'll return to our vehicles and drive to the southeastern section of Rio Hill Shopping Center. Rio Hill was the site of our area's only Civil War combat. (It's where Brig. Gen. George Armstrong Custer came a calling on February 29th, 1864, at the head of 1,500 blue-jacketed horsemen.)

PARKING:  There is plenty of parking in the Market Street Parking Garage at 550 East Market ST - only one block from Court Square. The first hour is free. After that the cost is $1.00 per half-hour. For our final stop, there is plenty of free parking in the Rio Hill Shopping Center.

POST-TOUR LUNCH: Timberwood Grill, 3311 Worth Crossing, Charlottesville. This is not far from Rio Hill. We will gather in their back room and each pay for our own meal.

PLEASE NOTE: This tour requires walking. Wear comfortable walking shoes and a hat and bring water.
